Aya or formerly known as Amelia is a spoken word artist, writer, and educator. Since returning to Malaysia after living in Aotearoa for almost a decade, she has been featured on BFM radio, Berani BersamaMY, and performed at Sunway University, Balai Seni Negara, Urbanscapes, & numerous local poetry gigs. In 2017, she published her zine, Blue Yemoja which revolves around female empowerment and the idea of mothers as a plural, paying homage to the women who have raised her. Her works explore the many facets of the female identity, generational trauma, and layers of intimacy. She has conducted various workshops for children, high school students, and adults such as Panelist for UKM's International Women's Day 2022, the Malaysian National Poetry Slam 2021 by MIDP MY PoetrySchool, and creative workshops under MulaZine x BrandNewWaves (2021) and others. Aya is an educator, trainee counsellor, and an advocate for sustainable living particularly fashion.
