Tengku Nurin Yusof

Editorial Assistant

What do you do?
In MulaZine, I am an Editorial Assistant, so I do whatever is needed and fit wherever I can fit. The one who wears many hats, but maybe none at all. I am also currently a student at Central Saint Martins, studying Fine Art.
Why do you do what you do and how do you convince people that you love what you do?
What I do is to try and understand ideas, however simple or complex. As for convincing others, I don’t. The only one I’m trying to convince, more so manipulate, is myself, but with that, I still acknowledge a potential external audience. I just do what I do with my understanding of sincerity and childlike curiosity and if that is felt by someone else, accepted and exchanged accordingly, it’s up to them to decide how they want to think or not think at all.
What’s your birth chart and which one do you resonate most with?
I’m not that in tune with this, but I am a Gemini. I’m aware we have multiple faces and I do believe I am multiple Nurins. An enabler of all Nurins: Nurin Yusof, Nurin Nurin, Nurin the girl child, Nurin Exotic Asian Girl, Tengku Nurin, and just Nurin.
What’s your best skill, and one skill that you wish you had?
I think I play my Nurins well, but you tell me. Although, us Nurins are lacking in many computing capabilities and general social skills.
What’s a quintessential signature you that many can be familiar with?
Me, Nurin playing as I, Nurin. You can decide who is who.
How did you get to where you are now and what were some of the fall backs that you had to go through?
With how I navigate my interests at this point in time is to experience everything with a childlike curiosity and to question it much like a child, whilst simultaneously retaining some criticality for ‘adult’ discourse. Although with this, I struggle to separate the child and the adult because those two mindsets seem to have not reached mutual respect.
What’s your favorite photo in your gallery and why?
I have never had this picture in my gallery but it is ingrained in my head. Imagine a red dot or a full image of the color red, so when you look at it in the gallery it becomes a red square. Imagine it as the most obnoxiously bright color. I like it because it feels alive.
What’s your pet peeve?
You teasing me with information, but not telling me. It’s because I can never contain my excitement.
Describe to us what your ideal collaboration and client is. Also, who would you want to work with?
Anything or anyone who is willing to wing it. Someone who doesn’t mind breaking all that they know to (temporary) reconstruct it with me who would also be breaking down what I inherently know. To look at things as if we know nothing, but to also feel it with a shared open heart and mind. I am fascinated by the embodiment sounds and storytelling, so I would love to work with someone who hates ideas of sounds or someone who is curious about their physicality in relation to both sound and storytelling.
How should one approach you to working together?
Come with a mutual curiosity, but also a sense of respect for said curiosity.
